Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. (born August 3, 1977 in New York) is an American football quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He spent the first 20 seasons of his career with the New England Patriots, playing in nine Super Bowls and winning six of them (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX, LI and LIII), both of which are most of all players in NFL history. He has won four Super Bowl MVP Awards (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XLIX, and LI) and three NFL MVP Awards (2007, 2010, 2017). Because of his numerous records and awards, many sports, commentators and players consider Brady the greatest quarterback of all time. After Brady had played college football for the University of Michigan, he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Patriots to 199th overall. Because of his late selection, Brady is considered the greatest "theft" in NFL Draft history. After an injury to Drew Bledsoe, he became the team's starting quarterback in his sophomore season, playing 20 seasons for the Patriots, the NFL record for seasons as quarterback for a team. After the 2019 season, Brady left New England and signed a two-year deal with the Buccaneers. Brady is one of only two quarterbacks to win a Super Bowl in their first season as a starter. He is also the only quarterback to have 200 regular season wins. Brady had never lost a season as starting quarterback. He has led his team to more division titles than any other quarterback in NFL history. With a postseason record of 30-11, he's the first ever in playoff wins and appearances for an NFL player, including an NFL record of eight consecutive AFC championship games between 2011 and 2018 (and 13 total). Brady was also selected for 14 Pro Bowls, which ties the NFL record for most selections. For the regular season and postseason combined, Brady is the first ever when it comes to career passing yards and touchdown passes. He is one of only two players in NFL history to accumulate 70,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards. Brady is second of all time in the regular season, second in career touchdown passes, and sixth in career passer rating. He's first in the postseason career, overtaking maneuvers and touchdowns, and fifteenth in the postseason career passerby rating. He also linked the record for the longest touchdown pass of 99 yards to Wes Welker. He is the only quarterback in NFL history to be named on two All-Decade teams. He was nominated for both the 2000 and 2010 first-team squads (the latter was selected unanimously). He was one of only 10 quarterbacks selected for the NFL's 100th Anniversary all-time team (and one of only four players active at the time of their selection) and the entire 100-year history of the league included at that time. Brady was banned from the first four games of the 2016 season for his alleged involvement in the Deflategate soccer manipulation scandal. Brady and the Patriots won two of the next three Super Bowls, making him the record holder for most Super Bowl wins by a player and the oldest quarterback to win a Super Bowl at 41.
In the National Football League, the team captain designation is a team-appointed position that designates certain players as leaders on and off the field. The captains program was implemented by the NFL Player Advisory Council, which was established by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in collaboration with the NFL Players Association. As of 2007, the league allowed teams to name up to six players as captains. Players who have been named team captains usually have a "C" patch on their shirts. There is a standard design that is used by all teams participating in the captaincy program. The patches are in team colors and are worn on the front left or right chest (depending on other patches, etc.). borne by the respective team). The number of stars filled in on the patch corresponds to the number of consecutive years that the player has been named captain by that team. If you've been captain for more than four years, the "C" on the patch is gold. Some teams (e.g. Baltimore and New England) don't have this patch on their jerseys, but still name captains. The New York Jets have not named team captains since an incident involving Santonio Holmes in a 2011 game. In the fourth quarter of the final game of the 2011 season against the Miami Dolphins, Holmes appeared to get into an argument with Jet's offensive against Wayne Hunter while the team huddled. As a result of the dispute, Holmes was suspended for the remainder of the game and the Jets lost the game, causing the Jets to miss the postseason for the first time in 3 years. His leadership skills and credibility as a captain have since been questioned. In the case of special detections, the patch can have a different color. e.g. pink for breast cancer awareness; or camouflage for recognition of military service. Due to the nature of the game, most teams list their starting quarterbacks as the offensive captain.
The 2019 NFL season marks the 100th season of the National Football League (NFL). The season began on September 5, 2019 with the NFL Kickoff Game, in which the Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears. The season ends with Super Bowl LIV, the league's championship game that will take place on February 2, 2020 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. The 2019 NFL League year and trading period began on March 13. On March 8, teams were allowed to exercise options for 2019 for players whose contracts contain option clauses. They are making qualified offers to their pending restricted free agents and submitting a minimum salary to grant exclusive negotiating rights to their players with expiring contracts for 2018 that have less than three accrued seasons of free agent loans. Teams had to be below the salary cap under the "Top 51" definition (which requires the 51 highest paid players on the team's payroll to have a combined salary cap). On March 11, the clubs were allowed to contact and begin contract negotiations with the agents of players who were to become unrestricted free agents.
