How does the browser-to-phone app work

Set the default browser - this is how it works with Android

If you click on a link in an email or a message on WhatsApp and Co., the corresponding website is opened in the standard browser. If you have installed several browser apps, you can set a standard browser on Android.

We'll show you how to set the default browser on your Android phone. The setting can be changed at any time.

Change the default browser on Android

If you call up a link with your new mobile phone for the first time, you will be asked for the corresponding app. You choose between the options Only this time and always. With the first choice, you will be asked for the desired app every time. Do you press always, the selection will be set as your default browser. How to change the setting afterwards:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android phone.
  2. Select the area Apps out.
  3. In the top right, tap the three points and select standard apps here.
  4. In the new window you will find the entry Browser-App at the very top. You can use this to change the current setting.

In order to set a new standard browser, several browser apps such as the Samsung browser, Google Chrome or Firefox must of course be installed. After reinstalling a corresponding application, you also have the option of selecting the default browser after you have clicked on a link.

We'll also show you how to activate standard apps on your Android phone for other functions.

What about the iPhone?

iPhone users currently have no option to change the default browser. So you can't get past Safari. Websites can only be opened in other browser apps if you surf the content directly. Links from e-mails and the like are always opened with the integrated Apple browser. It would only be possible to change the setting with a jailbreak. There is currently no reliable jailbreak for current iOS versions.
