What does IRL mean on Twitter

Twitter is 140 characters, Twitter art is 120 characters and Twitter skill is to avoid abbreviations of words. Nevertheless, in the last few years a number of abbreviations have been used to spread the tweets of other users. The “RT” is certainly the best known. But there are more!

  • RT - Retweet, now actually obsolete due to the retweet function, but still used
  • MT - Modified Tweet, if you modify a tweet, e.g. attach a hashtag
  • HT - Heard Through / Hat Tip, i.e. 'via'
  • PRT - Please retweet, please RT
  • RTHX - Retweet Thanks, thanks for a retweet
  • TMB - Tweet Me Back, write back to me
  • TL - Timeline, i.e. your own stream
  • TL; DR - To long; did not read - text is too long, not read
  • TT - Translated Tweet, a manual retweet, but translated
  • w / - With, that is, 'with' in relation to a person named below
  • Where - Without, i.e. 'without' in relation to a person named below
  • DM - Direct Message, a private message between two users
  • EM - email
  • FWD - Forward, mostly intended as a redirect
  • HTH - Hope That Helps, "I hope it helps"
  • IRL - In Real Life, "In 'real' life"
  • J / K - Just Kidding, "Just kidding!"
  • TIL - Today I Learned, "Today I learned that ..."
  • TMI - Too Much Information, "Too Much Information" on information that you didn't want to know ...
  • NSFW - Not Safe For Work, it's better not to click on work ...
  • FYI - For Your Information, "For Your Information"
  • IDK - I don't know, "I don't know"
  • IDC - I don't care, "I don't care"
  • FB - Facebook
  • TW - Twitter
  • YT - YouTube
  • <3 - heart, love, ...

Hashtags

  • #FF - Follower Friday, recommendation of other users with reference to names & usually a reason, only on Fridays
  • #TBT or #ThrowBackThursday - Usually a picture or reminder of times gone by, only on Thursdays
  • #TGIF - Thank God It's Friday - "Finally Friday!"
