8 Pinterest Alternatives You May Not Know About

advertising

Pinterest has built a solid reputation (whether by accident or on purpose) as a website that caters primarily to women in need of ideas for weddings, home decor, and recreation. You might like the idea of Pinterest, but not the theme. Maybe Pinterest just isn't there for you. Is there hope for you

Yes there is. As it turns out, there are many websites that have adopted the core concept of Pinterest and implemented it in a unique way. Looking for a Pinterest for men? It's out there. A Pinterest for food? It exists. A Pinterest for memes? You're lucky. Read on to find the perfect Pinterest alternative for you.

Juxtapost

Juxtapost is a Pinterest knockoff, but in a good way. It was originally conceived as a better version of Pinterest, filling in many of the holes that existed in Pinterest at the time: invitation only membership, lack of private boards, export of content, etc. After Pinterest caught up, Juxtapost lost much of its differentiators, but its community is still strong.

The feature I like best in Juxtapost is the "More Like This" button. When you flip through the front page and see a delicious recipe, you can click that button to see delicious recipes right away. Also, posts can be categorized and tagged in many different ways, making it easy for you to discover new content that interests you.

Use Juxtapost when you want to use a Pinterest-like site with many of the same features but presented in a different way.

We sweetheart

If I had to describe We Heart It in one sentence, I would call it the baby of Pinterest and Tumblr, and I don't mean that badly. We Heart is a place where users can be themselves and write down pretty much anything they want - cat pictures, melodramatic quotes, cute outfits, landscapes, food, and more.

There is an undercurrent under all of the We Heart It posts, indicating that this site is mostly used by teenagers and college girls. There isn't that much wedding planning and there is more teenage anxiety. If you're looking for a younger version of Pinterest, this is it.

FoodGawker

Are you a foodie Then you will fall in love with FoodGawker in no time. One word of caution: don't search this page if you're hungry or you might find your desk in a pool of drool.

The only downside to FoodGawker is that it's curated. You can submit your own photos and links, but the editors review all submissions and have the final say on what gets published. On the one hand, this maintains a high standard of quality, but it ends up losing some of its Pinterest-esque appeal.

Liqurious

Liqurious is the website for those of you who are not so many foodies but drinkers too. Whenever you come across an amazing new drink recipe you can click the link on Liqurious and it will be added to the list. It's not as community-centric as Pinterest, but it's as close as you'll get to a "Pinterest for alcohol".

Some of the posts are really out there. You will find many cocktails and drink combinations that you would never have thought of. Surprisingly, they all look good.

Covering

" Pinterest is for girls "every guy said. Well I know there are a lot of people the Use Pinterest (although most of them probably wouldn't admit it), but it's hard to deny that the site is a platform for women. In Steps Manteresting, a website that was pretty much designed to be Pinterest for men If Pinterest isn't interested, try these alternatives for men If Pinterest isn't interested, try these alternatives for men Pinterest is a fascinating website that does the things that People like, love, desire and desire. For those previously immune to its lure, Pinterest operates based on images from ... Read More

The concept is simple. When you find something you like on the web, save it to Manteresting. From sports to video games, from cars to computers, if it's of interest to men, put it on the side. But instead of "tacking" these items to a "board", you "nail" them to "workbenches". Pretty manly, right?

Note that a good part of the website is NSFW. You won't find hardcore pornography, but there is enough enticing content that you won't want to be browsing at work.

Gentlemint

Gentlemint was conceived by its founders as a "Pinterest for men" in which users could publish and share everything that was "masculine". Despite the posh intent behind the name, Gentlemint appears to have attracted an audience that is more focused on memes and infographics. If you want that out of a man-centric Pinterest alternative, this is for you.

There are the occasional posts on topics like whiskey, survival skills, and DIY projects, but if you're looking for some deep masculine insight, you probably won't find it here. Other downsides are website design that is a little too simple (although this is a subjective point) and community that is smaller than ideal.

Dudepins

Dudepins is a third Pinterest-inspired site that caters to a demographic of men. What sets Dudepins apart is his tendency to be a bit classier than the alternatives. It doesn't have NSFW content (like Manteresting) and it doesn't have any dumb internet memes (like Gentlemint), which makes it the most mature of the three.

While Dudepins is not a wasteland, it has not yet reached critical mass in terms of community size, which is a shame because I think it has the best potential of being the truly Pinterest for men site on the internet.
