Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee speak together, Neil Peart gives his perspective on things separately.

The fans describe the importance the band has for their lives. Some rush nerds report on over a hundred concert visits and how intensely they experienced the band live. The fan meeting at Rushcon is also portrayed.

07.12.2015: Review of "R40 Live" (DVD / Blu-ray / 3-CD set / 2 combination sets)

Toronto is the hometown of Rush and this is where their career as a school band began. Rush have now released their two Toronto concerts on June 17 and 19, 2015 at the "Air Canada Center" on DVD, Blu-ray, 3-CD set and in 2 combination sets. "R40 Live" represents Rush's 40th anniversary tour.

The band was celebrated frenetically at the two 2.5-hour concerts. The fan reactions have been captured authentically. There are also a lot of enthusiastic women in the audience, which wasn't always the rule for Rush fans. The joy of playing and the sympathetic demeanor of Geddy, Alex and Neil were also captured well.

Almost the entire concert program of the "R40 Live" tour has been documented on the DVD / Blu-ray. However, there were 3 different set lists on this tour, so not all of the songs on the tour were played on these two evenings. These missing songs can be heard on the 3-CD set as bonus tracks.

Rush have presented their large back catalog live in reverse order. As the concert progressed, the stage sets were redesigned according to the respective band phase. At the beginning of the show, the stage design of the "Clockwork Angels" tour could be viewed. At the end of the concert, Rush played against the backdrop of a school gym. So the roadies had a lot to do.

The Rush classics and tracks that have not been played live for a long time harmonize very well in the setlist. It's great that "Jacob's Ladder", "Hemispheres: Prelude", "Xanadu", "Lakeside Park", "Anthem" and "What You're Doing" have been played live again for many years. The song "How It Is" was presented live for the first time on the tour. "Losing It" even premiered live on June 19th. This song in particular touched the emotions of the fans a lot. Ben Mink (violin) was a guest musician.

On the film, the video clips and gimmicks that ran as recordings on the video walls in the background were recorded very well. The image guidance is very balanced and pleasant.

The picture quality and the sound of "R40 Live" are superb. The artwork on "R40 Live" is very sophisticated and, as always, was done by Hugh Syme. An extensive and beautifully designed booklet has been added to "R40 Live".

The setlist of the DVD / Blu-ray:

The World Is ... The World Is ... (Video-Clip), The Anarchist, Headlong Flight, Far Cry, The Main Monkey Business, How It Is, Animate, Roll The Bones, Between The Wheels, Losing It, Subdivisions , No Country For Old Hens (Video-Clip), Tom Sawyer, YYZ, The Spirit Of Radio, Natural Science, Jacob's Ladder, Hemispheres: Prelude, Cygnus X-1, Closer To The Heart, Xanadu, 2112, Mel's Rockpile (Video -Clip), Lakeside Park / Anthem, What You're Doing / Working Man, Exit Stage Left (video clip), Bonus: One Little Victory, Distant Early Warning, Red Barchetta
