Colleen Hoover - Verity

Lowen Ashleigh has a particularly bad day: After her mother's death, she is back on the street the first day when an accident happens right in front of her eyes and, just a few minutes later, she is bloodied and shocked to cope with a conversation with her publisher. A man helps her and, surprisingly, she meets him again a little later, while talking to her literary agent. Jeremy Crawford would like to hire her to finish his wife Verity's book series because it is in a vegetative state.
After some hesitation and because of the good pay, Lowen finally agrees and moves into the Crawford house for a few days. She is drawn to Jeremy, but when she finds old Verity records and mysterious things keep happening around the house, she feels like running away. Has she fallen into a trap?

I know many of the author's books, which can inspire me again and again. I usually only know her from the romance and women's novel area, so I was very curious about this thriller, which captivated me from the first to the last page.
The narrative style is fluid and modern. The tension is built up quickly, the plot is consistent throughout, and there are many thrill elements and a pleasant basic horror mood. In between I really didn't know what was actually being played here, whether Verity is the good or the bad, whether Jeremy has several secrets, why a family is so punished that they lose both twins or whether Lowen knows more than I thought .
The book has many surprises in store, there are a few twists and turns and the author repeatedly leads us astray.
The final was unsatisfactory for me. Here the author dismisses us with a possible version and a few questions, even if I can understand this ending. Now what is the truth and what is the lie? It's definitely a story I'll think about further.

The characters look pleasantly multi-faceted and realistically worked out. With a few exceptions, I liked Lowen, and in any case I could sympathize with her. Since the story is mostly written from her point of view, I was able to get a good impression of her. Like Lowen, I was unsure of what to do with the truth. But that she actually takes the said step, I did not expect that.
Jeremy was opaque to me from the start. I actually really liked him, he is understandable, but here too there are twists and turns that I did not expect. And above all there is the question of what is true and what is not?
