Can blueberries be frozen

Blueberries are in season in summer. If you want to enjoy the summer taste even in the colder months, you can choose the fresh one Freeze blueberries. We'll tell you how it works best.
Instructions: Freeze blueberries
- Put the fresh blueberries in a sieve and gently rinse them off with a light jet of water. Remove any stalk ends that are still present from the berries.
- Drain the blueberries thoroughly and then dry them on kitchen paper before freezing them.
- Gently spread the dry blueberries on a tray. Make sure that the blueberries are all individually and not on top of each other. If not all of the blueberries fit on the tray, use a second one. In a pinch, you can also use a clean baking sheet.
- Then put the tray with the blueberries in the freezer.
- Alternatively, if you are freezing the blueberries in the freezer where there is less space, you can place the fruit on a clean plate. Again, the fruits must not lie on top of each other.
- Let the blueberries stand in the refrigerator chest for at least an hour.
- Then you can transfer the frozen blueberries in portions into freezer bags and close with a clip.
- With this method, the blueberries do not freeze together and can be removed individually as needed at any time.
Shelf life: The frozen blueberries keep about six months.

General tips for freezing blueberries
- Use only fresh blueberries for freezing.
- The blueberries should have been in the refrigerator for a maximum of one day before freezing.
Thaw blueberries - this way they won't get mushy
To ensure that the blueberries taste fresh and not mushy after freezing, defrost them as follows:
- Take the desired portion of blueberries from the freezer.
- Put the frozen berries in a bowl and pour hot (not boiling) water over them.
- Let the blueberries stand in the water for a minute.
- Pour off the water.
- If the blueberries are still frozen, repeat the process.
Tip: If you want to use the frozen blueberries for baking or in smoothies, there is no need to thaw them. You can use the berries directly in the frozen state.
