## Resistor Color Code Table (Resistor Code / Color Code)

Resistors are available in different designs and sizes. The most common design is a resistor body that is coated with a paint on which several colored rings are applied. The colored rings (resistance code / color code) identify (resistance identification) a certain resistance value and the tolerance with which the resistance value may deviate.

1. Before starting to determine the resistance, you have to count how many colored rings have been applied to the resistance. Carbon film resistors usually have 4 rings. Metal film resistors have 5 rings. For resistors with 5 rings, the resistance value is given a little more precisely.
2. Then you have to determine which ring is the first. Usually one tries to find out which ring is the last ring. It is the tolerance ring that indicates how many percent the specific resistance value may deviate from the actual resistance value.
Most of the time, the tolerance ring is gold. If this color doesn't exist, then you have to pay attention to the two outer rings. Usually one of them has a greater distance from the end of the body.
3. Then you start to assemble the resistance value from the beginning. The colors have certain values. The first and the second ring determine the resistance counter (in the case of a carbon film resistor, 4 rings). The third ring serves as a multiplier. It determines how high the resistance value is.
4. The fourth ring is the tolerance ring, which determines the deviation of the resistance value (in the case of a carbon film resistor, 4 rings).

Note: The colors gold and silver contain metal pigments that you don't like on high-voltage resistors. This is why the tolerance rings are 5% yellow instead of gold and 10% white instead of silver.
