Is there split screen multiplayer on a PC

Splitscreen in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare": what works, what doesn't?

You can play "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" not only online, but also locally in split-screen with a friend. However, there are a few hurdles to overcome before the split-screen couch co-op fun can begin. You can find out which these are and which modes are supported here.

Nothing works without an Activision account

A quick round of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" in the split screen is unfortunately not possible without further ado. Signing in via guest accounts is not possible on PS4 and Xbox One for this purpose. Therefore, your local teammate must either have their own PSN or Microsoft account or an account must be created for them. If you already know that your friend does not have an account, it may be worthwhile to set up a dummy account as a precaution.

If you are already in the process of creating accounts, you can also create an Activision account and link it. This is also necessary to play "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" on the split screen. Fortunately, this can be done right from within the game.

The split screen is then relatively easy to start: While you are in the game mode selection, you simply switch on the second controller. Now your teammate only has to press X or A once more and you are in a group of two. Then it can start in split screen - at least in some modes.

Story and co-op (so far) not playable in split screen

Those who hoped to be able to experience the action-packed campaign of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" together on a split screen will unfortunately be disappointed: The story mode can only be played alone. And even if the name suggests it, the "co-op" mode is also so far Not in split screen, but only playable online. However, it cannot be ruled out that "Koop" will later be expanded to include the split-screen function.

Also multiplayer mode with cuts in split screen

Thus only the multiplayer of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" is splitscreen compatible, but both offline (in 1v1 or with / against bots) and online against human opponents. The latter is probably the reason why an Activision account is also required for the second player. Both the standard mode and "Gunfight" can be played.

But even in multiplayer there is a limitation: The "Ground War" mode is not yet supported when playing with a split screen. It is not known whether this will change in the future.

Does the split-screen mode also exist on the PC?

Friends of the couch co-op who own "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" for the PC unfortunately have to do without the split-screen feature at all. Infinity Ward did not implement it, even if some gamers would have liked to play "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" with a split screen on the PC.

  1. For a split-screen game on consoles, the second player needs a PSN or Microsoft account and a linked Activision account.
  2. In order to create a common group for playing in the split screen, it is sufficient to activate the second controller in the game mode selection and confirm with X or A.
  3. The story and the "co-op" mode are not yet playable in split screen. The multiplayer is supported both offline and online - with one exception: The "Ground War" mode cannot be played in couch co-op.
  4. Unfortunately, splitscreen gaming is not possible on the PC.
