Jules Verne was born in Nantes, France, in 1828, the son of a lawyer. Verne wrote futuristic adventure novels and is considered the father of science fiction. In addition to working as a novelist, he traveled extensively, wrote a geographic work and collected scientific details from books and magazines in the fields of geography, zoology, physics, chemistry and technology. He had a card file with more than 20,000 notes. Jules Verne died in Amiens in 1905.
