Writing poems: what do you have to pay attention to?

Well-known poets like Goethe and Schiller wrote many of the most beautiful love poems. Is there a romantic in you? Do you like to write for your life and instead of big gifts do you prefer to find the right words? Then show your crush how much they mean to you with a few romantic verses. Or write a poem to your best friend, it doesn't always have to be funny! There are also many beautiful Christmas poems, for example, so there are enough occasions to get creative. The best thing about it: To write poems yourselfis a lot of fun. Because you can share your perceptions and memories with yourself or with someone you like. How do you do it best? In this guide, we'll tell you how you can write poetry yourself.

Write poems yourself: this is how it works!

1. For whom?
First of all you have to think about who the poem is for: Are they thoughts that you just want to write down for yourself, for example in your diary? Or should it be a surprise for someone special, for example for a birthday or an anniversary?

2. What is it about?
What is buzzing through your head and what do you want to express with your poem? Is it about a specific person, situation? If you know that, you already have something very important, namely the subject of your poem!

3. Find the most important words!
Then first write down a few keywords that come to mind spontaneously; For example, sun, summer, chilling out, barbecuing when it comes to the last vacation. Friends, forever, trust when it comes to one of your best friends. Or love, hope, heart if it's for your crush! Of course, it can also be personal memories or insiders.

4. What rhymes with ""?
When you have gathered a few important words, just write them down below. And then look for as many words as possible that rhyme with them and write them down next to them. Important: First write them all down. You can always sort out later!

5. How is the mood?
When brainstorming, i.e. thinking about important words, you will surely notice how you are and what mood you are in! A poem about lovesickness is sure to sound sadder than a thank you rhyme for your BFF. Pay attention to it! And then look for the appropriate word pairs that rhyme.

6. Just get started!
Then just start with the first lines. That doesn't sound perfect at first, but you can still rebuild later. For example, shorten, delete and swap sentences and words. The most important thing is that you first write something and get started! The rest will come by itself, you will see!

7. Don't despair!
And if you don't like something or you don't get any further: Try a second, similar one that has a different beginning, for example. Sometimes it helps to leave it all for a night and the next day you can think of more great words and lines.

8. Come time, come words!
After all, such a poem has to "grow" and that doesn't always happen at the push of a button. Also, try not to put yourself under pressure, writing poetry also takes some practice. Maybe it's four lines on the first try, six on the next, etc. After all, it's not about how long it will be, but that you enjoy expressing your thoughts in words! And now: have fun rhyming, you little poet!
